REALITY TV stars Jason and Sammy Gibson are taking their retro-styled Gold Coast penthouse — complete with a pink kitchen — to auction.
The Surfers Paradise apartment was used as a backdrop when the couple appeared on Channel 9 reality TV show Parental Guidance 2023 with their children Pepper, 12, Jude, 8, Rory, 5, and Lottie, 4.
The family decided on a sea-change during the pandemic and in July 2022, swapped life on acreage in Brisbane for a beachfront apartment on the Glitter Strip in need of a renovation.
“We were in a beautiful house in Brisbane but the ocean was calling and it was a great opportunity,” Ms Gibson said.
“We wanted to give the kids outdoor space and time in the water, that classic quintessential beach lifestyle.
“The beach become our backyard.”
The couple said they wanted to put their own spin on the property and quickly got to work on their seventh home renovation.
They gutted the residence, and transformed it into a four-bedroom, three-bathroom showstopper.
Standout features include a retro pink kitchen with Gaggenau appliances, rooftop entertaining terrace with kitchenette, and main bedroom with private balcony and luxury ensuite.
“We started from scratch and we didn’t want to go with that standard Hamptons look, we wanted to try something different,” she said.
“We thought rather than a white kitchen, why not create a pink kitchen.
“You either love it or hate it but what makes it pop is the pink sky sunsets.”
The family took part in the filming of Parental Guidance 2023 last year before the show aired in June.
Ms Gibson, a psychology student, and Mr Gibson, a business analyst, described their parenting style on the show as “lighthouse parenting”.
“The spin on it was lighthouse parenting where we essentially look out from the lighthouse (our apartment) down to the kids on the beach,” Ms Gibson said.
“It’s something we actually do as well, the kids will often take the dog for a walk down at the beach every morning.
“We have our morning coffee and can watch them play down on the beach.”
The couple said they enjoyed their time on the small screen despite receiving mixed responses to their parenting style.
“We had a lot of mums and dads approach us who loved the show and our parenting style which was really great as we know people can be quite critical online,” Ms Gibson said.
The family has decided to sell in order to travel overseas.
“We really love the apartment and will be sad to let it go but we want to take the kids sightseeing around the world,” Ms Gibson said.
Josh Soineva and Marc Keswell of Amir Prestige Group are taking the property to auction on January 24.
“The location of this property is what makes it stand out,” Mr Soineva said.
“You have views that go all the way down to Tugun and Coolangatta.”
