CVIU members inspecting commercial vehicles
Between Sept. 13, 2022 and Sept. 15, 2022, EPS, along with its municipal and provincial partners, held their Fall Commercial Vehicle Check and completed 238 inspections. Of these inspections, 69 vehicles passed, with 110 vehicles placed out of service, including 15 being towed due to their dangerous condition. In total, 551 violations were found over the three-day operation and more than $36,000 in fines were issued.
In one case, a load of pipe hauled by a semi shifted, striking the back of the tractor’s cab.
“This particular incident shows how difficult it can be to secure a large load and how dangerous it can become for the driver and surrounding motorists when a load is not secured properly” says Const. Trevor Henderson with CVIU. “Regular commercial vehicle inspections help to prevent these situations and make the roads safer for all drivers.”
