JACKSON, MI – Fire crews in Jackson battled a blaze at a commercial building early Saturday morning, officials said.
There were no injuries and the building appeared vacant, according to Captain Joe Smith of the Jackson Fire Department.
The Jackson Fire Department, along with several other departments, were called to a structure fire just after midnight on Saturday, May 27, in the 300 block of Oak Street, Smith said.
While en route to the fire, crews received information that it was a commercial building that appeared to be vacant, according to Smith.
“We arrived to find a two-story commercial structure with smoke and flames showing at that time,” Smith said.
After arriving at the scene, Smith said he requested a second and third alarm, which brought resources from Spring Arbor Township Fire Department, Napoleon Township Fire Department, Liberty Township Fire Department and Henrietta Township Fire Department.
Summit Township and the Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety were part of the initial response.
The fire was eventually contained and there were no reported injuries.
“Crews were on scene for approximately three hours,” Smith said.
The Jackson Community Ambulance was also on scene along with the Jackson Police Department for traffic control, Smith said.
At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
