After having plans rejected to build more homes units east of U.S. 17 to the WyndWater subdivision in Hampstead, developers are planning to appeal the decision.
Signature Top Sail NC, Ltd., a Houston-based business, is planning to address Pender County’s Board of Adjustment after being denied by the Planning Board in June because of environmental matters related to stormwater. During that meeting, it was asked to modify phases to allow for townhomes, increase commercial space, while reducing the overall size from 235 acres to 206 acres.

The property is located east of U.S. 17, north of Doral Drive, west of Sloop Point Loop Road, and south of Cardinal Acres Lane.
Overall, the master plan consist of about 530 units. Since 2013, the WyndWater development went through several changes through the years. A lot of the property has been developed or is in the process of being developed.

If approved, developers would like to reduce plans by removing 29 acres from the original plan. That includes cutting 41 single-family homes from a 10th phase, reducing townhome units from 76 to 56 for the 11th phase while adding 56,000 square feet of medical office and retail space and additional changes for Phase 7, which now includes plans for 60 townhome units and an addition of a commercial area with a few acres of medical office space.
Along with Signature Top Sail, the property is also owned by Trust Special, and Ruth Kalmar Estate, of Charlotte. Some of the other projects from the developers include Pecan Grove Plantation in Hampstead and Muirfield Homes in Wilmington.
The Board of Adjustment meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Pender County Hampstead Annex Auditorium, 15060 US Hwy. 17, Hampstead.
