I have been a commercial driver on the Sunshine Coast for over a decade, and have driven this highway since I was 16. That’s 24 years of safe driving on our busy Coast Highway 101.
In recent years, people have been driving with more speed and have been taking greater chances when travelling past commercial vehicles. May I remind you that your cute little Toyota 4runner will not survive an accident with the 24,550 kg dump truck that you choose to overtake. And the likelihood that you and your passengers survive is quite low.
The commercial drivers on the Sunshine Coast have to deal with constant changes in driving conditions and infrastructure that is not adequate for the types of equipment that are currently permitted on our highway. Not to mention amazing feats of engineering that have turned intersections into bottlenecks with next to impossible left turn lane corners and bypass side roads that are no longer passable by our oversized vehicles.
Don’t be a part of the problem on the highway. If you want goods available at your shops, materials available for your projects, equipment delivered or fuel for your car, obey the rules of the road, and SLOW DOWN!
