Matchesfashion has appointed Carl Tallents as chief commercial officer, the second C-suite replacement that follows the arrival of new CEO Nick Beighton.
Beighton was appointed in July and joined in August from British mass market e-tailer Asos. New COO Stuart Hill was appointed from Farfetch days after Beighton. CFO Dave Murray also joined from Farfetch in May.
Tallents, who will start in October, joins from British retail company Frasers Group where he was group head of luxury brands. He will succeed industry veteran Elizabeth von der Goltz, who was hired by former Matches CEO Ajay Kavan in 2020 for the newly created role. Von der Goltz joined Matches from Net-a-Porter, which she moved to in 2017 after a 14-year stint at Bergdorf Goodman. Kavan was CEO of Matches for just one year.
“I am looking forward to getting to know the team and thrilled to be working alongside Nick to help deliver the next phase of Matchesfashion, a true market leader in modern luxury fashion globally,” said Tallents in a statement.
Matchesfashion was bought by Apax Partners five years ago and remains unprofitable, reporting a loss of £36.6 million on revenues of £392 million in the year ended January 2021. Beighton, who is Matches’s fourth CEO in five years, was brought in to turn around the loss making luxury retailer with his notable focus on digital and expansions in the US market.
“Carl is a fantastic addition to our executive leadership team” said Beighton in a statement. “We remain focused on our ambition to be the luxury destination for customers in the world. Carl brings a depth of experience and leadership that will be invaluable as we enter our next phase of growth.”
