A 1-½ acre, highly-visible piece of land at Lee Street and Forest Avenue directly west of the Aldi grocery store in Des Plaines may become home to at least one new retailer.
Plans call for a 5,000 sq. ft., single-story commercial building to be built on half of the site and possibly a second structure on the other half. One tenant will occupy the 5,000 sq. ft. building and two or three in the second potential building.
According to John Carlisle, Des Plaines director of Community Development, Hall Property Group will meet with members of the city’s planning and zoning board next Tuesday in city hall at 7 p.m. to reveal their plans for the acreage. The meeting will focus on the proposal to subdivide the land into two lots. Hall is the owner of the tract which is zoned C-3 Commercial.
Carlisle said the developer at this point would not reveal the identity of the tenants.
For decades, that property has sat undeveloped. Within the last year or so a new traffic light has been installed at Lee and Forest and roadway improvements have been made along Lee in that area.
