Two men have been arrested in relation to the discovery of 50 migrants inside a commercial vehicle in north Laredo.
Authorities identified the suspects as Michael Cortez Young, 61, of Dallas, and Dario Rodriguez Orozco, 20, of Guanajuato, Mexico.
Each was charged with 48 counts of smuggling of persons by serious bodily injury or death, and two counts of smuggling of persons younger than 18 years old.
While working Operation Lone Star, Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division special agents responded to a possible human smuggling attempt at about 9 p.m. Sept. 21 by East Point Drive and Union Pacific Boulevard.
During the investigation, DPS special agents discovered 50 migrants inside a commercial vehicle.
U.S. Border Patrol agents took custody of the migrants. There were 37 men, 11 women and two juveniles from the countries of Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras and Colombia.
DPS continues to investigate the smuggling attempt.
