FORMER Newport County consultant Lennie Lawrence is back in the managerial hotseat at the age of 76 after being named as Hartlepool’s caretaker boss.
Lawrence, who provided guidance for Michael Flynn at Rodney Parade between 2017 and 2020, will be in charge of Saturday’s National League fixture against Oxford City.
Pools suffered relegation from League Two last season and sacked John Askey at the weekend after a run of just one win in 11 games to sit four points above the relegation zone.
Lawrence joined the club in November as a non-executive director and will be assisted by first-team coach Antony Sweeney while Hartlepool hunt a permanent boss.
“Lennie has attended the majority of games both last season and this season in his existing role for the club, as such he knows the current playing squad and staff well,” read a club statement.
“Antony will continue to be out on the grass for training this week, ensuring the correct preparations for the match against Oxford City are made.”
