Duplex targeted by attempted arson in Montreal’s NDG

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after an alleged attempted arson was set at the entrance of a duplex early Monday morning in Montreal’s NDG borough.

At around 1:40 a.m. a 911 call was made about the incident on Girouard Avenue near Saint-Jacques Street.

“When the police arrived on the scene, the fire had extinguished itself,” said Jeanne Drouin, a SPVM spokesperson. “According to the first information obtained, one or more suspects would have started a fire in front of the duplex front door and then fled before the arrival of the police.”

She added that incendiary materials were found at the scene and damage to the building is considered minor.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made so far.

The file has been transferred to the SPVM arson squad.

An investigation is ongoing.
