Building dreams on The Hill: How Campbell House & Home transformed a St. Louis bungalow

In the heart of The Hill, Alex and Brandon Eads saw more than just the walls of their modest one-story home—they saw potential. What began as a 1,200-square-foot bungalow was transformed into a stunning three-story, 3,000-square-foot dream home rebuilt from the basement up.

With the help of Campbell House & Home, a family-owned design and construction firm, the Eads turned their vision into reality. For the Campbells, the project wasn’t just another remodel; it was an opportunity to showcase their craftsmanship, creativity, and commitment to helping families build homes that tell their story.

A Vision Rooted on The Hill

The Eads knew the challenges that come with homes on The Hill, from small lot sizes to older home structures. When choosing their home, they understood remodeling would be part of the journey, and they understood it would take the right team to bring their vision to life.

“We liked the accessibility that The Hill offered us, but also finding exactly what you want on The Hill is borderline impossible,” Brandon says. “We felt it was best for us to just go ahead and retrofit what we already had.”

The Eads knew what they wanted in their home, but they weren’t sure where to start—until they met Ryan and Katie Campbell. The husband-and-wife duo behind Campbell House & Home have built a reputation in St. Louis for helping families reimagine what’s possible in the places they live. What began as a shared passion for real estate and design has grown into a full-service firm that brings realtors, designers, and builders together under one roof. Their hands-on approach makes the process seamless, guiding homeowners from the first sketches and valuations to the final finishing touches.

“They’re really good about helping us understand what it’s going to take, what the upfront costs are, and connecting us with the right people to scope the project,” Brandon says. “Having never done this before, just having someone to validate decisions and walk us through the process was huge.”

Design Decisions Made Easy

The Campbells believe a strong creative vision drives the look and feel of a renovation, and it’s where their process begins. “Campbell does a really good job focusing on the design process on the front end,” the couple says. “While it took a lot of time, by the time construction started, we were 90 percent through our selections. There weren’t any hiccups or hold-ups because of materials or design decisions.”

Designing a home comes with countless decisions, and the Campbell team helped the couple focus on details that they might have otherwise overlooked. “There are thousands of options for things as simple as kitchen knobs,” Brandon says with a laugh. “When no one’s whittling those down for you, it’s really challenging to make a decision. Having that person to fall back on helped us get to a better place.”

The Campbells also guided the couple through cost-saving choices that didn’t sacrifice style. “We learned how small decisions can really impact your budget,” Brandon recalls. “Like the difference between a $22-per-foot imported tile and a U.S.-made one that looks identical. Campbell helped us make those calls without compromising design.”

A Dream Realized

Once construction began, Campbell House & Home delivered results that exceeded expectations. The firm completed the entire rebuild, from a one-story structure to a full three-story home, in just seven months. “They literally tore the house down and had it rebuilt with all the finishings in seven months, which was insane considering the amount of work they did,” Alex says.

The new home now stands as a reflection of both The Hill’s architectural character and the Eads’ modern lifestyle. Clean lines meet classic details, and open spaces blend seamlessly with cozy corners that make the house feel like home.
