The 10 colleagues from Fulford-based consultancy scarlettabbott aim to walk 1,955 kilometres, one for every year of York’s history.
The team began the challenge on Friday, October 17 and hopes to complete it within a month.
They will walk individually and together when possible, and plan to mark historical milestones along the route.
Frazer MacRobert, who is leading the challenge, said: “A step challenge is a great way to raise money for charity while getting a bit of a health boost, but we wanted to give ours a bit of a twist.

“We’re walking 1,955km – one for every year since York was founded – to celebrate the memories that make us who we are.
“As a York-born agency, we know how precious those memories are.
“But for those living with dementia, they can slip away.
“That’s why we’re stepping through time to support Dementia Forward, and help protect what’s utterly priceless.”
Lucy Clapham, another participant, added: “We hope to walk the last 2-3km together and finish up at one of York’s historic pubs.
“We’ll have earned a pint by then.”
