Unai Emery has some selection dilemmas ahead of facing Man City in the Premier League on Sunday
Aston Villa will look to return to winning ways on Sunday when they host Manchester City in the Premier League.
Unai Emery’s side suffered a shock defeat at Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday night, as the hosts came from a goal behind to claim victory.
Evann Guessand opened the scoring inside four minutes, but Villa then missed a series of chances to extend their lead.
Mathis Suray made them pay for those missed opportunities when he equalised before half-time, and Mats Deijl completed the comeback on the hour mark.
Emi Buendia missed a late penalty, blowing the chance to salvage a point from a miserable trip to Deventer.
Emery made seven changes for the clash with Go Ahead Eagles and is expected to make a number of alterations to his team once again this weekend.
Emi Martínez should continue in goal, behind a defence likely to consist of Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, and Pau Torres, though Ian Maatsen may stay at left-back considering Lucas Digne missed Thursday night through injury.
Tyrone Mings returned to the side on Thursday after overcoming an ankle injury, but Torres started both of Villa’s last two home games against City — 1-0 and 2-1 wins respectively.
In midfield, Amadou Onana is expected to partner Boubacar Kamara in the double pivot.
Evann Guessand could retain his place in the team, with Emery appreciating the work he does out of possession, while Morgan Rogers and John McGinn should also support striker Ollie Watkins.
Predicted Villa XI vs Man City: Martínez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Maatsen; Kamara, Onana; Guessand, McGinn, Rogers; Watkins.
