Liverpool looks to get back into the race for the championship on Saturday, as the club gets set to host Aston Villa in a marquee English Premier League matchup.
When the 2025-26 season got underway, it looked like Liverpool was going to be unbeatable. Defeating the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United right out of the gate led to many believing the Reds had what it takes to make a run at another EPL title.

However, things have gone sour since then. While the club is also trying to maintain focus on both UEFA Champions League and EFL Cup play, it has come at the expense of its Premier League performance. Since their hot 5-0 start, the Reds have lost four matches in a row, including a disappointing 3-2 loss to Brentford last weekend. Paired up with a disappointing showing against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Liverpool has been sluggish over the past month.
On the other side, Aston Villa has responded after a slow start to the season. The Lions went winless in their first five matches of the season, but have since responded by coming out on top in their last five, including a 1-0 victory at home against Manchester City last week.
