Liverpool set for major injury boost ahead of Aston Villa clash

Slot provides positive Gravenberch injury update ahead of Villa clash

Slot optimistic over Gravenberch return

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has offered encouraging news regarding midfielder Ryan Gravenberch’s recovery ahead of the Premier League meeting with Aston Villa. Speaking after the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, Slot confirmed that the Dutch midfielder has the best chance of returning among the club’s current injury concerns.

“I think Ryan has a good chance,” Slot said in his post-match press conference. “The other ones are going to be… let’s wait and see tomorrow and Friday. I don’t know about all of them but I think Ryan has the best chance from all of them.”

Setback and recovery timeline

Gravenberch’s absence has been keenly felt in recent weeks. The 22-year-old twisted his ankle during the 2-1 loss at home to Manchester United on 19 October and has not played since. His injury forced him to miss the 5-1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt and Premier League and Carabao Cup fixtures against Brentford and Crystal Palace.

Liverpool’s rhythm has faltered without him, suffering defeats in their last two domestic games. Slot’s update offers a welcome lift as the squad prepares for another demanding test at Anfield.

Wider injury picture for Liverpool

In addition to Gravenberch, Alexander Isak, Curtis Jones and Alisson Becker remain sidelined. Isak has missed the last two fixtures, Jones remains a doubt after limping off against Brentford, and Alisson has yet to recover from a hamstring issue sustained against Galatasaray.

With Villa in strong form, the possible return of Gravenberch could prove timely, offering Slot a boost in midfield options and energy. Liverpool’s challenge now is to find rhythm and consistency as they seek to regain ground in both league and cup competitions.
