Liverpool vs Aston Villa predictions and betting tips – Reds favoured to stop the rot

A battered and bruised Liverpool will seek to get their season back on track when they host Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday night.

The Reds are on a horrible run of form. So with that in mind, the last thing they probably need is to be facing an in-form Aston Villa looking for their fifth league win in a row.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa predictions

Can Liverpool turn their season around with a statement win over Aston Villa on Matchday 10 of the Premier League?

At the very least, the Reds could do with stopping the rot and avoiding defeat. But to be in this position now is some turnaround for a team that began the season with five successive league wins.

Since that strong start, Liverpool’s season has turned on its head. The Reds have now lost six of their next seven matches in all competitions.

Arne Slot’s team did initially break a four-match losing run with a 5-1 demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League just over a week ago.

However, it proved to be a false dawn as they deservedly slipped to another defeat in the Premier League away to Brentford just four days later.

The Reds then lost their sixth match of the seven with a 3-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Arne Slot appeared to sacrifice the cup by picking a reserve team against Palace. However, the move seems to have backfired, with the Liverpool boss coming under more fire following the defeat.

And with Real Madrid waiting in the wings to face Liverpool on Tuesday, Slot really needs a result against Villa on Saturday.

Getting the better of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa won’t be easy. They began the season with a five-match winless run, but the Lions now seek history as they attempt to become only the second team in top-flight history to win their next five.

Villa’s current four-match winning run began with a 3-1 home victory over Fulham on Matchday 6. They backed that up with a 2-1 win over Burnley the following weekend.

Villa’s next assignment was away at Tottenham Hotspur on Matchday 8. They came through that with another 2-1 win, this time goals from Morgan Rogers and Emi Buendía saw the Lions come from behind to claim the three points.

Unai Emery then rang the changes for the Europa League tie away at Go Ahead Eagles. The move backfired with Villa slipping to a shock 2-1 defeat.

However, Emery was vindicated just three days later when his team beat Manchester City 1-0 at Villa Park on Matchday 9. Matty Cash scored the only goal of the game in what was an impressive win for the hosts.

A win over Liverpool would not only be Villa’s fifth in a row, but also their third successive victory over a Champions League-qualified team.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa betting tips

It would appear that the stars are aligning against Liverpool this season. Out of form, the Reds had to take on an in-form Brentford last Saturday, and now this week they are scheduled to face an Aston Villa team on a four-match winning streak in the Premier League. Our Liverpool vs Aston Villa match tips follow:

Reds can’t be trusted to win

Liverpool can’t be trusted to win, but we have to take into account that they have won three from four at Anfield in the league this season.

In the one match they didn’t win, it took a late winner from Harry Maguire to seal the points for United. And the home team had an xG of 2.76 to Man Utd’s 1.26 on the day, so the chances are Liverpool will win that match more often than not.

However, the facts are that Liverpool are badly out of form, while Aston Villa are playing well. Therefore, we are taking out insurance on Arne Slot’s team, again, by covering them to win or draw in the double chance market.

That only pays 1/6, so we are going to add another selection to our wager.

There have been 13 goals in the four league games at Anfield this season. That’s an average of 3.25 goals per game.

If you combine Liverpool to win or draw (double chance) with over 2.5 goals in a Bet Builder, it pays just under even money.

Martinez set for a busy night

Liverpool had six shots on target from 17 attempts against Manchester United, 14 on target (from 17) against Frankfurt and five on target (from 15) against Brentford. It’s not like they’re not creating chances, they’re just not taking them.

Roared on by a boisterous KOP, we can see the Reds chucking the proverbial kitchen sink at Villa on Saturday night.

They are 10/11 to have 18 or more attempts at goal against Villa, and 5/6 to have six or more efforts on target. We like the look of the latter.

Another Gakpo goal involvement offers value

Liverpool may be out of form, but one man who has bucked that trend and continued to deliver on a regular basis is Cody Gakpo.

The Dutchman has done his best to arrest the slide in Liverpool’s season, scoring Liverpool’s goals in their respective 2-1 defeats to Chelsea and Manchester United.

Gapko also provided an assist and a goal in Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Frankfurt in the Champions League.

He did draw a blank in his team’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford. But we believe he’s worth sticking with.
