Man arrested after being accused of breaking into apartment with shotgun and stealing car


GREECE, N.Y. — A 40-year-old man has been arrested after Greece Police say he broke into an apartment and had a shotgun.

Police say just before 7 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a reported burglary at a home on Bancroft Drive in Greece. They say the victim reported her ex-boyfriend, Joseph Alessi, went into her apartment by kicking in the front door.

As Alessi went into the apartment, police say he had a shotgun, and it is believed he damaged property, took the victim’s keys, and stole her car. Police say officers at the scene were able to recover the shotgun they say was left on the property.

A countywide search then began for Alessi and the stolen car. Rochester police officers were able to find the stolen car later on Friday on Maple Street.

Police say they later found and took Alessi into custody at a home on Maple Street. He faces various charges, such as burglary, grand larceny, criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and weapon charges.

Nobody was injured, police say. Alessi was brought to the Monroe County Jail.
