A tragic incident on Monday morning in Rockland, Massachusetts left one man dead and another seriously injured after a fall from a bucket truck during tree-trimming operations, as reported by WCVB. The accident occurred at the Brentwood Arms condominium complex, located at 24 North Ave., where the victims were working as maintenance personnel.
According to the Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz’s office, the Rockland Police Department received multiple 911 calls concerning the accident around 10:45 a.m. By the time the emergency responders arrived at the scene, one man, a 72-year-old whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was pronounced dead. The other victim was promptly transported to South Shore Hospital, to receive treatment for his serious injuries, details of his condition remained unknown at the time of reporting, according to WCVB.
This workplace fall adds to a string of recent fatalities, marking the third such death since Friday, when two men perished in a crane collapse in Everett. Those men, identified as members of Piledrivers Local 56 union, part of the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, were recognized as Larriston Lake, 44, of Roslindale, and Paul Ledwell Jr., 37, of Middleborough, according to details shared by The Boston Globe.
Rockland Fire Captain David Cowing estimated that the men in the Rockland incident fell approximately 40 to 45 feet, stating, “They were pretty high up.” Investigations into the accident are currently underway by the Massachusetts State Police, and the Rockland Police Department. Despite the involvement of maintenance personnel in a condominium complex, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was reported to not be part of the investigation process. Efforts to reach OSHA were met with automatic replies indicating a lack of response “due to a lapse in funding,” The Boston Globe reported.
