A number of Aston Villa players could see their contracts end in 2027
As many as eight Aston Villa players could see their contracts expire by the end of next season.
The club has been working to reward players with new deals, including Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings, and Lucas Digne, over the summer.
Left-back Digne received the final contract extension approved by Monchi before Roberto Olabe replaced him last month.
Before that trio, Lamare Bogarde signed a new contract in April, following Morgan Rogers’ bumper deal five months earlier.
Despite being tied down until 2030, there had been speculation that Villa might look to reward Rogers again, though he struggled for form in the opening weeks of this season.
On the international stage, however, Rogers continues to impress under Thomas Tuchel, having started England’s last two games — assisting in the win over Serbia and scoring his first goal for the Three Lions against Wales last weekend.
There are more pressing contract matters to address, including that of last season’s Player of the Season, Youri Tielemans.
The Belgian midfielder, signed on a free transfer following the expiration of his Leicester City deal in the summer of 2023, is under contract until 2027.
The same applies to John McGinn, now in his eighth season with Villa after joining from Hibernian for a modest fee in the summer of 2018.
Matty Cash is also due for a new deal, while Mings’ current terms will expire at the end of next season, having signed a one-year extension after last season ended.
Marco Bizot agreed to a two-year contract upon joining from Stade Brest, while Victor Lindelof could also depart in 2027 unless an extension clause is triggered.
Emi Buendia signed a contract extension before joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan in January, keeping him tied to Villa until 2027 as well.
Meanwhile, Ross Barkley will also be out of contract within the next 20 months unless he is offered fresh terms.
The midfielder returned to action before the October international break after dealing with a personal issue.
