Shelton man arrested for sexually assaulting woman at Long Hill Avenue apartment, officials say

SHELTON – A city man was arrested Friday for sexually assaulting a woman at an apartment on Long Hill Avenue, police said.

Sean Senerchia, 23, of Shelton, was charged with first-degree sexual assault, third-degree strangulation, disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer, according to Shelton Police Detective Christopher Nugent.

Nugent said officers responded to the residence after receiving a 911 hang up call in the area of Sullivan Avenue. He said the responding officers were met by the female victim who ran outside the home.

“The victim informed officers that the male suspect was still inside the residence.” Nugent said. “Senerchia became confrontational with officers on scene and was taken into custody for interfering with an officer.”

Nugent said detectives learned the victim knew Senerchia and was invited inside the residence. He said the victim told police that Senerchia forced himself on to her sexually while in the apartment.

“Detectives located evidence on scene and confirmed details regarding the incident, with neighbors residing in the apartment building,” Nugent said.

Nugent said Senerchia was originally placed on a $100,000 bond, but was later raised by the Bail Commissioner’s Office to $250,000. He said Senerchia was unable to post bond and appeared at Derby Superior Court on Monday.
