What Aston Villa are now proposing to Morgan Rogers as PSG enter race and Premier League clubs circle

TBR Football can reveal that Aston Villa are in talks with Morgan Rogers over a new bumper contract and are ready to put him on par with the club’s highest earners, as they look to fend off interest from a number of their Premier League rivals.

Rogers has shot to prominence since his move to Aston Villa almost two years ago, and he is considered one of Premier League’s finest attacking talents.

Villa’s top brass are only too aware of his progress since his last deal. The 23-year-old was given a new deal less than 12 months ago, but he is still some way off the club’s top earners. The likes of Emi Martinez, Ollie Watkins, Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans all earn around £150,000-a-week.

Rogers is now in line for similar terms, should he agree to put pen-to-paper. Villa and Rogers are well aware of the interest in the player, with Chelsea leading the chase for the former West Bromwich Albion star.

Exclusive: Aston Villa in talks over new Morgan Rogers contract as Chelsea, Liverpool and PSG circle

As TBR Football has previously revealed, Chelsea’s co-director of Recruitment and Talent, Joe Shields, is a huge admirer of Rogers, having discovered him at Manchester City.

He would love to be reunited with the England star, who scored his first Three Lions goal in Thursday’s 3-0 win over Wales at Wembley, which saw Villa icon Gareth Barry praising Rogers for his ‘phenomenal’ rise.

Indeed, Rogers would have the chance to link-up with Cole Palmer, who is one of his best friends. However, Chelsea are not alone in their admiration of Rogers. Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich all have long-standing interest, whilst we can reveal that Paris Saint-Germain are keeping close tabs on his progress.

Rogers impressed hugely against PSG during their Champions League quarter-final clash last season as he shone in both legs – including grabbing a goal in Paris.

TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has stated that Villa are over the moon with Rogers’ development and how he is faring.

However, his performances have all but forced them into rewarding him with another new deal. Bailey said: “Aston Villa are massively happy with Rogers, he has gone from strength to strength under Unai Emery.

“However, he has become a prominent figure for England and Villa know they need to reward him again, and he is in line to become their highest earner.

“Chelsea love Rogers, but I am told PSG are very much keeping tabs on him – they were hugely impressed with what he did against them last season, and have maintained a watching brief ever since.”

Whilst Villa have given Rogers his chance to shine in the Premier League and in Europe, it’s also given him the platform to regularly feature for his country.

Morgan Rogers will be hoping England World Cup space can catapult him to stardom

With that in mind, a solid season from this point onwards could put Rogers on the plane for the World Cup in the summer.

Goals for Thomas Tuchel’s side will only strengthen his case ahead of other attacking stars such as Phil Foden, who has yet to capture his best form for Manchester City.

If they are to avoid such a scenario of clubs circling, handing Rogers a new contract will be vital to them either enjoying his talents for years to come, or maximising a fee to reinvest into their squad.

However, that is a double-edged sword for Villa. Of course, their fans will want to see their best players shine on the world stage and beam with pride, but Rogers bursting onto the scene in North America this summer will attract further attention from the likes of PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea and other elite clubs.
