Worker killed, second injured, in fall at Rockland condo complex

A man died and another was injured after they fell from a lift while trimming trees at a Rockland condominium complex on Monday, officials said.

A 911 caller reported that two men fell from a boom lift at 24 North Ave. at 10:42 a.m., Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office said.

One of the men, who was 72 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second man was taken to South Shore Hospital, officials said. Details of the injured man’s condition were not released.

Authorities said the men were “maintenance personnel at the Brentwood Arms condominium complex.” Their names were not released.

Rockland Fire Captain David Cowing estimated the men fell about 40 to 45 feet. “They were pretty high up,” he said.

The accident is under investigation by State Police and the Rockland Police Department, officials said.

No further information was immediately available.

Beth Stone, a spokesperson for Cruz’s office, said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is not involved in the investigation.

The federal agency investigates accidents and deaths in private workplaces.

A message sent to OSHA’s press office was met with an automatic reply email that was blank. Another message sent to an OSHA spokesperson also received an automatic response, which said they were not responding to inquiries “due to a lapse in funding.”

The man’s death is the third fatality on a job site since Friday, when two men were killed in a crane collapse in Everett.

Those men were identified by authorities as Larriston Lake, 44, of Roslindale, and Paul Ledwell Jr., 37, of Middleborough. Both were members of Piledrivers Local 56 union, which is part of the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters.
