OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa City Council during Tuesday’s meeting City Hall is poised to delay the implementation of increased sewer fees for multifamily homes and mobile home parks to the beginning of the next fiscal year.
In April, the city approved an ordinance to establish sewer fees, but held off on multifamily dwellings after pushback from some landlords regarding the cost of the fees for apartments and passing those rates onto their tenants in the form or rent increases.
In the meantime, an engineering firm is conducting a study of the sewer fee and rate structure, and the implementation would take place July 1, 2026, unless there are further changes to the rates and rate structures approved by the council.
The council will also receive the fiscal year 2025 annual reports from Bridge View Center, which had 374 total events with a total attendance of 78,921 guests. Though the number of events was down from the previous fiscal year, the attendance increased.
The council will also take up a resolution that will award a roof-tile replacement project at City Hall to Pro Commercial LLC of Huxley for $97,696.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers and will be live-streamed on the city’s YouTube page.
Wapello County Supervisors
The supervisors will have a public hearing for a fiscal year 2026 budget amendment relating to the recorder’s office, conservation department, land management, data processing, zoning and non-departmental categories, all as a result of increased expenditures.
They will also set a public hearing to repeal and replace a section of its code relating to construction and property management.
The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the third-floor courtroom/board room of the courthouse.
