An engineering, environmental and planning consultancy has supported a multi-million-pound property refurbishment scheme.
Caulmert provided civil, structural and geotechnical design services to Wrexham County Borough Council’s upgrade of sheltered housing.
The work covered Llys y Mynydd, in Rhos; Llay’s Tir y Capel; Maes Y Capel, in Coedpoeth; and Wrexham’s Wisteria Court.
Work, led by main contractor Read Construction, included enlarging apartments, modernising communal areas and fitting triple-glazed windows and air source heat pumps.
Bangor and St Asaph-based Caulmert – appointed by Ellis Williams Architects – carried out ground investigations and design work around foundations, drainage and cladding.
Ranjan Apputhurai, Caulmert associate structural engineer, said: “It has been fantastic to work with Ellis Williams on such an important programme for Wrexham County Borough Council.
“To be able to enhance the lives of so many elderly people within the region is wonderful, and our team has relished carrying out the activity.”
Mark Jones, Ellis Williams Architects’ associate, added: “It’s a credit to all involved that the schemes have turned out fantastically well, and will hopefully improve the lives of a number of returning and new residents.”
Funding for the work came from the Housing Revenue Account, a Welsh Government Affordable Housing Grant and the Optimised RetroFit Programme.
