Beloit firefighter injured while responding to duplex fire | News


BELOIT, Wis. (WKOW) — A Beloit firefighter was hospitalized on Monday morning for their injuries after a duplex collapsed during an ongoing fire response. 

According to a spokesperson for the city of Beloit, the duplex fire was reported around 2:15 a.m. on Bootmaker Drive. The initial call was for the fire and three children in the unit unaccounted for. 

Investigators later learned the three missing children were not home at the time of the fire. 

The firefighter was hurt when the duplex collapsed during the fire response. They were taken to the hospital, treated and released. 

The home is uninhabitable following the fire. The Red Cross is helping people who live there with emergency needs.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to be accidental. A damage estimate has not yet been determined.
