
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Just before midnight on Sunday, Oct. 12, Cottage Grove Police officers and Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a stabbing that had just occurred in the area of 502 East Madison Ave. in Cottage Grove.
It was reported that a man, identified as 26-year-old Fernando Rodas Martin, had allegedly stabbed and assaulted a female victim who was known to him. She was transported to the hospital by friends prior to the officers arriving on scene.
Police say she was treated for her injuries and released.
Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of the stabbing; however, the suspect had fled.
A search for Rodas Martin ensued and it was determined that he later returned to an apartment at the 502 East Madison Apartment complex.
Cottage Grove PD and LCSO were able to take Rodas Martin into custody without further incident.
He was arrested at the scene and later transported to the Lane County Jail where he was lodged on the following charges as well as a warrant for violating a previous release agreement:
- ORS 163.160 – Assault in the Second Degree
- ORS 166.220 – Unlawful Use of a Weapon
- ORS 163.190 – Menacing
- ORS 164.255 – Criminal Trespass in the First Degree
- ORS 164.365 – Criminal Mischief in the First Degree
The investigation is ongoing.
