Going, Going, Gone? Another Cape Cod Cottage That Sits Mere Feet From the Edge of Crumbling Ocean Bluff Lists for Less Than $200K

A couple of weeks ago, a Cape Cod cottage on an eroding bluff and perched just shy of collapsing into the Atlantic Ocean made headlines when it hit the market for just $239,000.
While that residence is currently pending sale, an adjacent property has also just hit the market—this one for the extraordinary asking price of just $199,000, a sum that has helped it splash to the top of the week’s most popular homes list.
What’s the catch? Like its neighbor, this three-bedroom residence, though available for a low sum, is facing imminent risk of coastal erosion, sitting just a few feet from a crumbling bluff edge.
That impending threat might explain why the seller’s ask for the property is almost half the price he paid just one year ago, when he snapped up the 1,422-square-foot residence for $395,000.
At the time, the daring buyer, David Moot, said he knew purchasing a home located just 25 feet from the bluff was risky, but insisted that he wanted to take advantage of its proximity to the ocean, even if just for a short time.
“Life’s too short, and I just said to myself: ‘Let’s just see what happens,'” he told Bloomberg.
With the fast-rising sea levels, it looks like he is now trying to recoup a portion of his investment.
