BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Department of Human Services has once again opened The Holiday Cottage, marking 38 years of allowing the community to give back during the holiday season.
Starting Wednesday, individuals can begin fulfilling the wishes of local children living in foster care. Kristy Torres, project manager of the Holiday Cottage, expressed the joy of the initiative, saying, “It is a happy time…it’s a great feeling.”

Each year, the department typically sees 700 to 800 wishes, all of which are fulfilled by community members.
To participate, individuals can take an ornament, purchase the corresponding gift, and return it to the Holiday Cottage. The doors officially opened this morning and will remain open until Dec. 6.
