Minchinhampton is an ancient market town set on a hilltop with lovely views

Looking for a cosy autumn break? How about The Snug – a cottage that’s ‘full of character’ in a beautiful Cotswold town you may never have heard of.

Minchinhampton is an ancient market town set on a hilltop with lovely views.

There are independent shops to mooch and a weekly market in the 17th century Market House plus some super pubs for food.

The Snug at No 35 West End boasts original features, exposed stonework, beams, one king-size bedroom, a curved staircase and a cosy fire.

There’s a kitchen diner which overlooks the garden, where you can dine alfresco or enjoy a cup of cocoa under the stars.

When it comes to food, head to the Crown Inn for meals, go for fish and chips at The Chip Shed or light bits at The Kitchen Cafe.

Rodborough Commons, owned by the National Trust, is nearby and spans 500-acres, offering panoramic views and three 18-hole golf courses

Try one of the many walking and cycling trails on the 102-mile Cotswolds Way, head into Nailsworth for art galleries, go for a picnic in Stratford Park in Stroud, shopping in Cheltenham or wander around the Gloucester Docks.

One reviewer posted: “The Snug was the perfect cottage – we arrived to a lovely clean, exceptionally well prepared cottage with treats for us and the dog!

“The village and the people of Minchinhampton are equally beautiful – full of character and kindness. The cottage itself id delightful – from the stone floors, cottage garden and quirky stairs the whole place oozes “Cotswolds” atmosphere.”

Other cottages in the area include Bitty Cottage, a two-bedroom stone cottage with a courtyard within walking distance of Minchinhampton and Rodborough Common.

And there’s Tump Cottage in Nympsfield near Nailsworth that sleeps two and has an open-plan living area and mezzanine bedroom.
