LANSING, Mich. (WJRT) – An independent consulting firm says it found no evidence of widespread discriminatory practices in the Michigan State Police.
In 2021, the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University released a report, saying it identified racial and ethnic disparities in traffic stops made by state troopers.
In response, Michigan State Police hired a firm that conducted an 18-month evaluation. The firm reviewed documents, carried out interviews and performed ride-alongs.
On Thursday, Michigan State Police released that firm’s final report.
It says the team determined, “the racial disparities in MSP’s traffic enforcement outcomes found by MSU do not appear to be the result of widespread discriminatory policing practices by MSP personnel.”
